Why ‘book trailers’ and ‘video books’

Working on that book? Having a book trailer can greatly advance your readership and social awareness.

These days more than ever, authors and publishers are turning to video to enhance their exposure, and to build their brand. As an independent filmmaker, it is exciting that the world of literature is becoming so integrated into my daily business. Over the past decade, I have had the privilege of serving so many different authors all over the country, and in many genres. A book trailer to me, is much more than just an advertorial video that directs readers to purchase a book. It is truly an extension of the author’s vision and creativity. If done well enough, a book trailer can create massive customer engagement, marketability and social relevance. When I produce a book trailer I am always wanting to get deep underneath the subtext, find the author’s core message and paint a virtual image that can truly inspire a potential reader to engage with purpose. I have worked with authors from self help to mystery. In each situation, it is always amazing how much of the human condition story you can pull from the subtext of the book. It offers viewers a unique personal connection to the material, rather than just saying “hey, buy my book!” I like to think of book trailers as many documentaries that give potential readers an incentive to engage in the material. I would like to take a moment to share some of my past book trailers.

Regardless if you are a seasoned veteran of literature, or just getting ready to publish that first novel, I would love to hear from you.

Book trailers come in all shapes and sizes, and also reflect a variety of different budget ranges. Most authors and publishers would be surprised to know how affordable book trailers can be.
